6 Things Fido Wants for the Holidays

Have you finished your holiday shopping yet? Don’t forget to get something for your canine buddy! Read on as a local Livonia, MI vet lists some things that may be on Fido’s list this year.

Toys

Playing is actually both fun and beneficial for our canine friends. Doggy toys make wonderful holiday gifts for our furry buddies! Plus, Fido is super cute when he gets excited over a new toy! Classic doggy toys, like rope pulls and chew toys, are fine, but you can also try something new, like an automated ball launcher.

Treats

If there’s one thing that all dogs love, it’s treats. Fill Fido’s stocking with his favorite store-bought goodies. If you like cooking, you can also make your pet’s snacks. You’ll find lots of great recipes online. Just be sure to only use pet-safe ingredients. Some good options are peanut butter, shredded meat or chicken, plain yogurt, sodium-free broth, eggs, cheese, and canned chicken in water. Ask your vet for more information on safe and unsafe foods.

Veterinary Care

We know, Fido probably wouldn’t put a doctor’s visit on his wish list. However, your pooch will definitely feel and look better with proper veterinary care. If your pet is overdue, let this be a reminder to set an appointment.

Comfy Bed

Making sure your canine pal has a comfortable bed to sleep in is very important! If you have a senior dog, consider getting Fido an orthopedic doggy bed. These are also a great choice for large breeds. Smaller dogs may prefer beds with raised sides.

Doghouse

Does your canine companion have a yard to patrol? Why not get Fido his own doghouse? Choose one that is well-insulated and raised up off the ground a little bit. Avoid doghouses made of pressure-treated wood, which is toxic to dogs.

Belly Rubs

We know, you can’t really wrap a belly rub, or put ear scritches in a stocking. However, at the end of the day, your dog really only wants to spend time with his favorite humans. Carve out some quality time with your furry best friend over the holidays. Talk to your pooch, pet him, and play with him. After all, Fido is part of the family!

Happy Holiday! Please reach out to us, your Livonia, MI pet clinic, for all your dog’s veterinary care needs. We’re always happy to help!
