Dentistry

A healthy mouth plays an important role in your pet’s overall good health and wellbeing. In fact, good dental health can actually extend your animal companion’s life. If not properly cared for, however, your pet may develop plaque and tartar which, over time, can eventually lead to dental disease – a serious yet common condition that can cause problems throughout your pet’s entire body. You can prevent all of this by making a commitment to providing your pet with quality dental care, both professionally and in your own home.

Village Animal Clinic provides complete veterinary dental care services, including preventative care as well as the treatment of oral problems that already exist. Our comprehensive dental cleanings include a complete examination of your pet’s teeth and gums, scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments. Our professional pet dentistry services will help keep your pet’s teeth clean and free of tartar and plaque and eliminate any lingering bacteria. Dental exams and cleanings are recommended for your pet at least once per year.

In addition to preventative dental care, Village Animal Clinic also provides a wide variety of dental specialty and oral surgical services, both of which our very own Dr. Kavanagh has extensive experience with. Dental specialty services include periodontics (treatment and prevention of diseases surrounding the tooth and supporting structures) endodontics (root canals, vital pulpotomies), prosthodontics (crowns, bridges), restorations (fillings, composite bonding), orthodontics (braces) and orthopedics (fracture repair).

Oral surgical specialties may include cancer surgery, plastic surgery, laser surgery, tooth extractions, complicated or difficult cases, oral medical cases including bacterial, yeast, fungal and viral infections, digital radiology, bacteriology, parasitology, virology, immune diseases, pain, trauma, and hyperplastic diseases as well as medical and surgical cases involving salivary glands, temporomandibular diseases (TMJ) and cases secondary to radiation exposure, burns, necrosis.

Pets undergoing any type of veterinary dental care require anesthetization for both their protection and ours. All anesthesia products we use are carefully selected based on safety, minimal side effects and synergy (combining local anesthesia, narcotics and non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, etc.) for maximum pain relief. Pain management protocols are tailored to each individual patient based on a number of factors, such as age, medical history, breed, any diseases that may be present and overall health. Dental patients are carefully monitored by our highly skilled technicians using metered I.V. fluids, heat support, cardiogram, pulse oximetry, respiratory, temperature, and blood pressure to ensure their safety and wellbeing at all times.

At Village Animal Clinic, we believe that your pet deserves the very best, and that includes a lifelong commitment to providing them with quality pet dentistry. Let’s work together to help your animal companion enjoy a healthy mouth for life!
